HOWAS 21 is the international flood damage database. On this website you will find information about the underlying concept of HOWAS 21, its object-specific data sets and its data use policy. If you already have an account with HOWAS 21, you can access its data here.
The main objectives of HOWAS 21 are
HOWAS 21 relies on voluntary data contributions and follows a community-based use concept, i.e. organisations that provide flood damage data in appropriate quantity and quality for HOWAS 21 will get full access to all data in HOWAS 21.
At the moment HOWAS 21 contains 8329 flood damage data records from Germany and Austria. The integration of international damage data is possible since 2020, thus we look forward to respective data offers.

HOWAS 21 was initially developed as part of the research project MEDIS (Methoden zur Erfassung Direkter und Indirekter Schäden) and kindly supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (July 2005 - June 2008, FKZ 0330688).
